The Nissan FALKEN☆GT-R ’04, a racing variant of the R34 Skyline GT-R.

The Nissan Skyline (スカイライン in Japanese) is a line of compact cars (evolved to mid-size car during 1989-2002 and later, as a compact executive car from 2001 onwards, along with a compact SUV variants from 2009 to 2016) originally produced by the Japanese carmaker Prince Motor Company starting in 1957 and subsequently by Nissan after the two companies merged in 1966. It is currently available in either coupé, or sedan body styles, and are most commonly known by their round brake lights, with the wagon form being dropped in 1989 with the introduction of the R32 platform.

Iterations R30 to R34 of the Skyline are still popular tuner cars for Japanese car enthusiasts from the 1980s to today, especially with available features such as straight-6 engines, turbochargers, and the high-performance GT-R trim.[1] While not distributed in the United States, the Skyline’s prominence in video games, movies and magazines resulted in many such cars being imported there from 1999 to late 2005, after Motorex petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to allow 1990-1999 GT-Rs and GTSs to be imported, at the condition that they were modified to meet United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The Skyline eventually discarded the «R» code completely, in favor of a new code, the «V». The V-series Skyline bear a resemble to the Nissan 350Z, right down to having a V35 Skyline 350GT equipped with the same powerplant as the 350Z (i.e. a VQ35DE, a 3.5-liter DOHC V6). These Skylines are later badged as the Infiniti G series in the United States.

This is an original tuned model created by «Gran Turismo», based on the Nissan SKYLINE GT-R V・spec (R33) (1997).

The following is the description of the base model.

When the new ninth-generation Skyline sedan, the R33, was introduced in August 1993, one model was conspicuously missing from the lineup: the GT-R. The R32 GT-R was still being sold at dealerships (all the way through November 1994), and Nissan engineers were working overtime to create a car that surpassed the R32. The car was unveiled at the 1993 Tokyo Motor Show, but fans still had to wait until January 1995 for it hit dealerships.

Many had their doubts whether the R33 could surpass the awesome performance standards set by the R32, but it not only met everyone’s expectations, it surpassed them, proving this in a television commercial called «Minus 21-second Dream.» It showed the R33 running the famed Nürburgring race course 21 seconds faster than the R32.

Under the R33’s hood, which was now made of aluminum along with the front fenders, sat the RB26DETT, but this one was more refined. It pumped out a whopping 276 HP at 6800 rpm and 276.2 ft-lb of torque at 4400. Gear selection was performed through the 5-speed manual gearbox that sent power to all four wheels via Nissan’s ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system. Also included in the handling mix was an active LSD, strut-tower bar, and powerful ABS-equipped Brembo brakes.

Vehicle History

The R33 Skyline was first released in 1993 and was the successor to the R32. It featured a revised body style, improved performance and handling, and more advanced technology.

The R33 was available in both coupe and sedan body styles and came with a choice of two engines: a 2.0L or a 2.5L.

The R33 GTR was introduced in 1995 as the top-of-the-line model.

It featured an upgraded engine with twin turbos, giving it significantly more power than the standard R33.

The R33 GTR also featured improved suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics, making it one of the most capable sports cars on the market.

The R33 GTR remained in production until 1998 when it was replaced by the R34.

However, the R33 GTR has remained a popular choice for enthusiasts and collectors and is often considered one of the best Skylines ever made.
